International Olympic Committee (IOC) was founded by
PIERRE DE COCEBERTIN and DEMETRIOS. VIKELES
in the year 1894 withholding the responsibilities for summer
and winter Olympic Games. The International Olympic
Committee (IOC) is the governing body of the National
Olympic Committees (NOCs) which are the National

The first summer Olympic Games were held under the President FIH and NOC,
International Olympic Committee (IOC) in ALHENES, Member IOC
GREECE in 1896, and the first winter Olympics in
Chamonix, FRANCE in 1924. The first YOG organized
in SINGAPORE in 2010 and the first winter YOG in INNSBRUCK in 2012.

honourary members, 2 honour members (Senegal and Limited state), 206 individual National

The Olympic symbols are icons, flags and symbols used by International Olympic Committee
(IOC) to elevate the Olympic games. Some such as the flame fanfare and theme are more
commonly used during the Olympic competitions but others such as flag can be seen
throughout the years. The Olympic flag was created under the guidance of BARON-DE-
COUBERTIN in 1913 and was released in 1914. It was first hoisted in 1920 in
ANLWERP(BELGIUM)at the 1920 Summer Olympics in the stadium.
The five rings represent the five continents in the world (ASIA, EUROPE, AFRICA, THE
AMERICA and OCEANIA). All the five rings interlocking coloured Red, Blue, Yellow, Black
and Green on a white field. The Olympic character once ascribed a ring colour to each
continent, Blue for EUROPE, Yellow for ASIA, Black for AFRICA, Green for OCEANIA and
Red for AMERICA. But the organizers removed this statement of colour prejudices from their
handbook in 1957.
INDIA first participated at the Olympicsin 1900 with a single athlete NORMAN PRITCHARD
and won two silver medals.
The Indian Olympic movement was then established during 1920’s having founder members
of this movement DORABJI TATA, A.G. NOEHREN, H.C. BUCK, MINUL HAG, S.
BHOOT, A.S. BHAGWAT and GURU DUTT SONDHI. LT. COL. H.L.O. GARRETT and
SAGNIK PODDAR who helped to organize some early national games and prominent patterns.

the Maharaja of KAPURTHALA and the Maharaja of BURDWAN.
In 1924 a provisional All India Olympic Committee was formed and in February 1924 the All
India Olympic Games (then later became the National Games of INDIA) were held to select a
team for the PARIS Summer Olympics.
In 1927 the provisional Indian Olympic Committee formally became the Indian Olympic
Association (IOA).
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) remained in control by the members of other
countries (Foreigner) and it was Mrs. NITA AMBANI Chairperson Reliance Foundation,
Dhuribhai Ambani International School and Non-executive director of Reliance Industries and
owner of the Indian Premier League cricket team Mumbai Indians. from India who cracked
the show by bringing laurels to her country by representing it as first woman member on the
International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2016.
It is a great Honour to people of J&K UT that MR. NARINDER DHRUV BATRA, the Son of
the Soil was blessed with the dignity of becoming the first president of any summer and winter
sports bodies to serve in two capacities as a President of Federation of International Hockey
(FIH) as well as National Olympic Committee (NOC). His untiring efforts enabled the Indian
sports to climb higher echelon with exemplary performance at world level. His wide experience
in the field of sports proved indispensable for the International Olympic Committee (IOC). By
virtue of his delivering best in promoting sports he was destined to be the member of
International Olympic Committee (IOC) in the year 2019. This Stateman started his career from
J&K in game of Hockey and represented J&K State Junior, Senior and University Hockey
Team (from 1970-1980).
There is no end to this journey. Let us hope that some more capable, painstaking and dedicated
noble souls shall come forward to steer the ship on the right direction to popularize the sports
at the ground level to discover the genuine talent hidden in our rural populace.
